How can I improve if I'm talking to other learners (and not native speakers)?

Updated 3 days ago

We have so much to say about this! The assumption that you can only improve if you are speaking with native speakers is so far from the truth!
There are lots of benefits of practising with other English learners. Some of those include:

  • Listening to and understanding different accents helps you to build stronger listening skills and means you will be less likely to experience ‘accent-shock’ when you meet someone who speaks a different English than you are used to hearing.

  • 70% of all English speakers in the world are non-native, so you are far more likely to speak with non-natives (even English-speaking countries tend to be multicultural)

  • When two English learners are practising together, they're both benefiting from the experience. There is equal motivation. If you limit yourself to only speaking with English speakers, there are not many who will give endless time to speak and practise with you.

Here at Hey Lady! we do things differently. We have English coaches and expert teachers but our main aim is to empower you to create your own English-speaking journey, build confidence, find motivation and what excites you to keep speaking in English. We provide conversation packs and study resources that allow you to come to each event fully prepared. You can also filter the events and search for different levels, so you will always find events to match your English Speaking needs. In addition, our Coaches offer group feedback and guidance during the events.
