What is a Conversation Topic and Pack?

Updated 3 days ago

Our Conversation Packs are our unique way of teaching and experiencing English at Hey Lady!

Each month we focus on one conversation topic. When we are all talking about the same one, it helps us to be on the same page and practise using similar vocabulary! Current topics are part of our yearly cycle of core conversation themes that inform our content, including Personal Development, Family & Relationships, Career Women, Community, Travel, and Food & Traditions.

Each topic has its own Conversation Pack, which will help you discover the topic, learn vocabulary and expressions and guide you to have meaningful, interesting discussions!

👉 You can find the current Conversation Topic for this month here!

Here's how it works:

First is the Topic Overview. This lesson will always include a video that teaches some interesting words and helps you think about the new topic. After you watch the video, you should move on to the topic questions. Use these questions to host Casual Conversations with a group, or one-on-one with your speaking partners!

Second is the Vocabulary Lesson. This lesson will ask you to watch a video, listen to a radio program, or read an article related to our topic! This is a fabulous way to learn new vocabulary, to expose yourself to interesting language, and also to learn a bit more about our topic.

After you read/listen to the text, download the Vocabulary Workbook. This will help you practise using some words from the lesson! But wait, there's more! In our Vocabulary Lesson, we also have included a video for you to practise pronunciation of the words. Use the imitation technique to practise sounds, intonation, and syllable stress. You can even create a Study Group to practise the vocabulary with other members.

Last is the Deep Dive. This lesson empowers our members to host their own deeper conversations and invite others to join them for the discussion. You can watch a video of a Deep Dive Conversation hosted by your coaches, then download the Deep Dive workbook to prepare for your own discussion. This workbook will guide you with sentence structures and suggested questions. In this lesson you'll practise your listening, reading, and writing skills. If you participate in a Deep Dive, you will also practise your speaking skills!

Watch the below video where Emma explains how to practise with our Conversation Packs and how to find them on the platform!
