What's a Public Channel?

Public Channels in Hey Lady! are public groups in the Chat section where members can come together to discuss topics, share experiences, and support each other in a variety of ways. These channels help create a fun space where women from all over the world can engage in meaningful conversations and build friendships on a common interest while improving their English skills. It's a great place to meet like-minded ladies!

When you create a public channel, any lady can join because it is visible and searchable by all members inside the Chat section, under Channels. 

Every Public Channel has an ‘Owner’ - the person who created it. This person is responsible for the channel and is expected to maintain communication in the channel regularly. The Owner can also assign ‘Moderators’ to the channel - these people have administrative controls within the channel too, so they can support the Owner. Both the Owner and any Moderators are visible to anyone who views the channel.

Instructions on how to create a public channel inside Hey Lady!

Note: Before creating your channel, please use the search to check if a similar channel already exists. If it already does, then it may be better to join it instead of creating a new one!

1. Inside the Chat feature, click either of the + green buttons to create a new chat

2. Select Public Channel

3. Upload a photo for your Public Channel

4. Add a name for your Public Channel

5. Add a description to your channel (What's it about? Why should ladies join?)

5. Click Next

6. Type the names of members you want to add. (You can also do this later after the channel has been created)

7. Click Create Channel. You can now send a message and chat with the ladies in your channel!

Tips on creating and maintaining a thriving channel! ✨

For a channel to thrive, it needs active participation and engagement. Here are our tips on ways to keep your channel exciting and relevant!

• Be consistent and post at least 2-3 times a week to keep conversations going

• Need a helping hand? Make another member a moderator so they also have administrative functions and can help keep it active (instructions on how to do that here)

• Post about Hey Lady! events and ask members to join

• Post engaging and fun content: mix it up with pictures, videos, memes and infographics relevant to the channel!

• Ask questions to spark discussions and start conversations

• Celebrate special moments like birthdays and certain achievements and make members feel valued!

• Welcome new members and encourage introductions 

• Share tips, resources and articles related to the topic of your channel
